What is the typical age range of students at String School?

We welcome adult learners of all ages! Most of our students are in their 20s to 30s or 50s to 60s, though we occasionally have learners outside of those ranges too. Our classes are friendly, inclusive, and designed for adults at all stages of learning.

How many people are in each class?

Our classes usually have between 3 and 8 learners, which creates a great balance; enough for a friendly, social atmosphere, while still allowing plenty of individual attention from the teacher.

We work to a maximum teacher-to-student ratio of 1:8, but due to studio space, we generally cap class sizes at 7. Occasionally, the numbers may vary slightly from week to week.

Will I be in a class with people at a similar level to me?

Yes, our courses are grouped by level (e.g. Course A for beginners). Within each course, we structure the activities to meet everyone where they’re at. If you're unsure, we may also suggest a Fundamentals class to build confidence before starting.

Can I pay the course fee in instalments?

Yes, we offer an instalment plan for our standard course fee of £480. You can split the payment into three instalments of £160:

  1. Deposit – Secure your place by paying the first instalment here: Pay Deposit
  2. Instalments – The next two instalments of £160 can be paid via this link: Pay Course Instalment

We kindly ask that learners let us know their preferred payment dates, and note that all payments must be completed by the end of half term.

If you have any questions or need help setting up your instalment schedule, feel free to contact us.

What if I need to miss a couple of classes?

We know that things like work travel or pre-booked holidays can sometimes get in the way of your regular class schedule. If you're going to miss more than one week of a course, here’s how we can support you:

1) Alternative or additional classes
We’ll always do our best to offer you a place in another class during the same week, if one is available. For example, if you're away on your usual day, there may be space on another day that week.

2) Before/after rescheduling
If no options are available in the same week, we’ll try to find an alternative time either the week before or after your absence.

3) Group catch-up class (where possible)
If several students are in the same situation, we may offer a group make-up session in the final week of term.

4) Reduced rate one-to-one support
If rescheduling or a group session isn’t possible, we may be able to arrange a one-to-one catch-up session with your tutor at a specially reduced rate.

If you know in advance that you’ll be missing a few sessions, just let us know as early as you can - we’ll always do our best to help you stay on track!
